School Safety & Security Coordinator

Job Goals: To provide a safe and secure environment for learning, and to provide a security presence as directed at academic, athletic, enrichment, and social events during and after regular school hours.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associates or Bachelor Degree preferred.
- Candidate must be able to pass an in-house safety officer training courses
- A strong work ethic and demonstrated initiative for continuous improvement
- Physical ability and stamina to perform an acceptable quantity & quality of work at all times
- A work history of dependability and reliability with a positive and cooperative attitude
- Ability to meet attendance requirements
- Ability to use a security camera, monitor associated software; read and comprehend complex written materials
- Valid Driver’s license and proof of good driving record, at all times
- Must have clear criminal record (CORI, SORI, fingerprint)
- Ability to become CPI and CPR / First Aid trained
- Ability to apply common sense understanding in oral or written instructions
- Ability to interact and relate to school leadership, faculty, staff, and public in a courteous manner
- Ability to work in inclement weather, including heat, cold, rain, or snow
- Ability to demonstrate professional judgment and appropriately respond to crisis under pressure
Preference will be given to:
- Military Veterans with honorable discharges
- Prior law enforcement experience in municipal, state, or education agencies
- Earned Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degrees in public safety related field
- Earned certifications in public safety related programs (i.e. First Responder)
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist the FPS Administrative Council and school based safety teams in providing a safe and secure environment for learning for all employees, students, volunteers, and visitors.
- Implement and maintain daily school safety / security operational protocol by patrolling interior points of entrance/exit, passageways, common areas including restrooms, instructional areas, gymnasium, auditorium, cafeteria, and assembly areas as assigned.
- Ensures appropriate pedestrian traffic patterns and flow along interior passageways and exterior walkways.
- Monitors motor vehicle traffic issues at all the FPS buildings including but not limited to vehicle-free zones/building proximity, parking areas, and speed.
- Assists school administrators in investigation of causes of school disturbances, theft, vandalism, and/or breaches in safety and security policies and protocols.
- Assists school resource (police) officers, local police, fire safety officers, and EMTs as necessary while ensuring the maintenance of professional, collegial working relationships.
- Maintain honest, frequent and open communication with school and district leadership.
- Maintains logs, prepares reports and/or other documentation related to security and/or safety. Keep the CEMP binders updated on paper and digitally. Ensure school based CEMP plans are updated at each school by the start of each school year. This includes using the Navigate Prepared App (app. takes 7-10 hours to go through annually).
- Facilitate School based Health and Safety Committee meetings at each school. Schedule and hold 6-10 meetings per year at all 7 schools.
- Run district-wide Health and Safety Committee meetings four times per year.
- Schedule, plan, and attend fire drills at all 7 schools four times a year.
- Schedule, plan, and attend intruder drills at all 7 schools twice per year.
- Schedule, plan, and facilitate two reunification drills per year; multi-day preparation will be required.
- Become proficient (District Administrator) at using Navigate 360 EMS App. Provide ongoing staff training as needed during staff meetings. Train Safety Staff to become Building Administrators of Navigate 360 EMS App.
- Facilitate and test school based radio communication two times a year.
- Make sure the Principal/SEBA/Assistant Principal/School Secretary knows how to scan police calls and use radios to directly contact first responders (police and/or fire). Collaborate with FFD, FPD, and Combined Dispatch to offer training.
- Conduct walkthroughs of buildings and grounds with all principals and head custodians looking for safety and security issues and potential facility improvements at least three times per year.
- Help facilitate ALICE training with all staff, including YMCA, Food Service, 2nd shift custodians, substitute teachers, part-time, and temporary staff.
- Become proficient with “Say Something” Tip Line, will become District Administrator to ensure Tips are being properly handled. Will require being On-Call
- Confirm Go Buckets are available and updated across the district.
- Confirm ID badges are updated, distributed to all staff, and worn at all times.
- Confirm Emergency Response Manuals are distributed.
- Attend and participate in town-wide Local Emergency Planning Committee meetings held by Falmouth Fire.
- Attend Barnstable County Regional Emergency Planning Committee meetings.
- Become adept at navigating school based video camera systems.
- Schedule and facilitate after action briefing meetings to review district response to an incident.
- Support Medical Response team drills at each school two times a year.
- Update, confirm, communicate, in coordination with Falmouth Police, lists of Level 3 sex offenders living in the area who can’t be near school grounds/bus stops. Communicate information related to other persons of interest as shared by police to principals/bus drivers.
- Check in weekly with school based Falmouth police liaisons regarding any neighborhood related concerns.
- Check in regularly with SRO and supervisor weekly regarding any local concerns.
- Supervise and Train school based staff who are supporting security and safety efforts. (Safety Monitors)
- Test Radio, Navigate, Landline, mobile phone (voice/text), school based PA system, and runner system as alternative methods of communication. Work with Combined Dispatch to confirm they have access to E911 information on schools, test video access, and have Navigate Prepared access.
- Review and recommend potential technology or tools that can be purchased to improve school based and district-wide security and safety.
- Interact with the Director of Technology regarding security related tracking of student activity on school issued computers.
- Work with administration and VIPS regarding CORIs.
- Periodically check fire alarms, security alarms, motion detectors, security cameras, and door buzzers.
- Schedule annual CPR and Stop the Bleed trainings for all schools.
- Such other responsibilities assigned by the Superintendent.
REPORTS TO: Superintendent and Director of Finance & Operations.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 12 month position; part-time, hours negotiable.
SALARY: Salary is commensurate with experience.
