QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Culinary Arts Degree or equivalent experience required. 
  • Two years of professional kitchen experience is required.  
  • Must be SERV Safe Manager Certified or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.
  • Must be SERV Safe Allergen Certified or have the ability to obtain it within 90 days of hire.
  • Previous experience working in a large-scale food production environment is preferred.
  • School nutrition training and work experience preferred. 

 

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for supporting scratch cooking, product consistency, local sourcing, and program expansion in schools. 
  • The Master Chef will produce food in bulk, create recipes, assist with menu development, and assist with staff training.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepares scratch foods in bulk including, but not limited to: sauces, dressings, vegetables, grains, and proteins according to established recipes. 
  • Creates scratch menus, using locally sourced ingredients when possible.  
  • Ensures consistency by measuring ingredients properly using scales and other measuring tools in order to repeat across seven kitchens.
  • Utilizes commercial prep equipment and food service equipment.
  • Create diverse and multicultural menu items.
  • Properly packages, labels, and stores prepared foods according to standard operating procedures.
  • Understands nutritional regulations for school meals and meal patterns. 
  • Develops recipes to meet nutritional requirements for the program.
  • Tests recipes and assists with developing procedures for individual kitchen preparation.
  • Assists with menu planning and expansion of scratch menu items.
  • Conducts periodic taste testing with students and staff.
  • Keeps current with culinary trends.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Extensive physical demands including but not limited to lifting up to 40lbs, bending, pushing, and pulling. 
  • Exposure to extreme temperatures (hot/cold) due to cooking and refrigeration equipment. 
  • Constant standing.

 

ADDITIONAL SKILLS:

  • Communicates and collaborates with kitchen managers, food service administrative staff, and other district staff.
  • Effective oral, written communication, and technological skills. 
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Basic Computer Skills and familiar with Google Suite.
  • Takes initiative and the ability to work without close supervision.  
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Food Service Director or Superintendent of Schools.

 

SALARY:  $65,000-$75,000
