Career Technical Education (CTE) Teacher (Long Term Substitute)

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Massachusetts Certification in Career Technical Education for Design & Visual Communications (required)
  • Four or more years of experience in the graphic design industry (required)
  • Associate Degree in the field (required) 
  • Bachelor or Masters degree (preferred)
  • Successful experience teaching at the secondary level
  • Demonstrated experience in successfully engaging with and motivating students of varying ability levels, skills, and achievements
  • Such other alternatives as the Superintendent of Schools may deem acceptable and appropriate

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Possess deep knowledge of design and visual communications, including graphic design, along with an understanding of current industry standards, expectations, and production methods
  • Draft and revise curriculum and learning experiences to ensure the scope and sequence of learning is relevant and aligned with the Career Technical Education (CTE) Framework for Design and Visual Communications
  • Plan and prepare lessons to teach units and courses in alignment with the CTE Framework for Design and Visual Communications
  • Differentiate instruction and assessment for each course taught, relating actions to the needs and interests of the students
  • Design and manage an experiential student-run design and print shop to build student confidence with their learning and client engagement
  • Model successful client relations
  • Develop community connections to support program engagement through advisory membership, interaction with the student-run design and print shop, and growth of internship opportunities
  • Share expertise in Adobe Suite, including but not limited to Photoshop, InDesign, Flash, and Illustrator, as well as other, emerging technologies and programs used in the industry
  • Provide opportunities for individual/group instruction to mirror work within the industry
  • Prepare students for and support students through assessment for technical skill attainment
  • Cooperate and collaborate with colleagues in the CTE Department
  • Cooperate and collaborate with colleagues interdisciplinarily to develop more effective ways to integrate the core curriculum frameworks 
  • Ensure that the CTE expectations for continued Chapter 74 status are fulfilled
  • Evaluate students’ progress in courses and keep accurate grade and attendance records
  • Attend and actively participate in professional meetings (including staff and department meetings), advisories, and other promotional activities to maintain the viability of the CTE program and the design and print shop
  • Attend and participate in curriculum/other departmental programs and professional learning
  • Maintain professional competence through professional development and/or individualized professional growth opportunities
  • Perform assigned duties in line with school and district expectations
  • Conduct such other responsibilities as may from time to time be assigned by the Principal and/or Assistant Superintendent

 

SALARY:  In accordance with FEA Unit A Contract
